A Beginners Guide to Pro Wrestling BASARA

Pro Wrestling BASARA came about in the aftermath of Union Max’s closure in 2015. Led by Isami Kodaka, BASARA formed to rebel against the new, flashy style of wrestling, and to this day they still regularly hold legitimate hardcore matches. BASARA would be a branch of DDT Pro Wrestling but not a part of the main company. The original roster consisted of former Union wrestlers Isami Kodaka, Hiroshi Fukuda (now Trans Am ☆ Hiroshi), Gouma Ryu, Daichi Kazato, SAGAT, and fresh out of the DDT dojo FUMA. Ironically, when Union Max dissolved, current BASARA wrestler Yusuke Kubo chose to leave wrestling and join DDT’s video staff.

On June 11, 2019 it was announced that BASARA would be leaving the DDT umbrella of brands and become its own completely independent company. They have established their own website, fan club and merchandise store in the months since the announcement was made. BASARA is going the route of companies like TripleSix, 2AW, and their rival Dove Pro Wrestling and will be having their shows filmed by Nico Pro and aired at a later date with commentary provided by one or two members of the BASARA roster.

BASARA’s inherited Union Max Championship from the defunct Union Max. The title has changed hands 8 times since the creation of BASARA. Isami Kodaka was the first Union Max Champion under the BASARA regime, and has held the title twice. The timeline for the title is as follows:

  1. Isami Kodaka: 12/25/16-01/06/17… defeated Trans Am Hiroshi to reactivate the title
  2. FUMA: 01/06/17-03/23/17
  3. Trans Am ☆  Ryuichi: 03/23/17-10/01/17… was the first freelancer to hold the title
  4. Isami Kodaka: 10/1/017-05/03/18… was his second reign with BASARA and 4th time overall holding the Union Max Championship
  5. Naoki Tanizaki: 05/03/18-09/21/18
  6. Ryota Nakatsu: 09/21/18-05/06/19
  7. Ryuichi Sekine: 05/06/19-11/03/19
  8. Masahiro Takanashi: 11/03/2019- current title holder

BASARA recently has shifted it’s focus to establishing their tag team division. Initially, BASARA had the Iron Fist Tag Team Tournament every year to crown the best tag team in their company. The tournament was created by FUMA as a way to prove himself and Yusuke Kubo were the best tag team in BASARA. In 2019 BASARA announced that the tournament winner’s this year would be BASARA’s inaugural Iron Fist Tag Team Champions. The tournament came down to Sento Minzoku (Isami Kodaka & Daiki Shimomura) and Iron Priest (FUMA & Yusuke Kubo). It took Iron Priest three tries to win the tournament they created but Iron Priest became BASARA’s inaugural Iron Fist Tag Team Champions.

BASARA has also played host to a few different sets of trios titles. Big Japan Pro Wrestling’s Yokohama Shopping Street 6-Man Tag Team Championships were held by Metal Family (SAGAT, Yusuke Kubo, & FUMA) and Sento Minzoku ( Isami Kodaka, Minoru Fujita, Ryuichi Sekine) in 2019. Currently the UWA 6-Man Championships are calling BASARA home. First they were held by Sento Minzoku (Ryuichi Sekine, Isami Kodaka, & Daiki Shimomura), then the team of Takato Nakano, Takumi Tsukamoto, and Yasu Urano, and currently SPARKY (Naoki Tanizaki, Ryota Nakatsu, & Akiyori Takizawa).

BASARA is kind of unique in the fact it has a set roster but also regularly brings in freelance talents. When most companies try to do this it tends to overshadow their full time employees but for BASARA it actually works really well. BASARA also has good working relationships with many other companies that allows them to talent share. These companies include Big Japan Pro Wrestling, TripleSix, Dove Pro Wrestling, 2AW, and All Japan Pro Wrestling. Dove Pro is their rival company, and every summer they a showdown between the two roster. Some notable talents BASARA brings in are…

  • Ikuto Hidaka (Pro Wrestling Zero1)
  • GUNSO (Dove Pro Wrestling)
  • Minoru Fujita (freelancer)
  • HAYATA (NOAH)
  • Daisuke Sekimoto (BJW)
